Joint Interim Standing Committee on Health and Human Services

Summary

The Joint Interim Standing Committee on Health and Human Services is a permanent interim committee of the Nevada Legislature whose responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of programs for the prevention of illness and analyzing the overall system of medical care in Nevada. The Committee’s authority and responsibilities are set forth in Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 218E.330 and NRS 439B.220 through 439B.227, which authorize or require the Committee to: (1) review health insurance issues and certain health care regulations; (2) examine hospital-related matters, medical malpractice issues, and the health education system; and (3) evaluate and review issues relating to child welfare, among others. Further, the Committee considers topics primarily related to behavioral and mental health; health care; public health and safety; public welfare; and food, drugs, and cosmetics, among other issues. Finally, its jurisdiction includes issues that fall under the purview of the Senate and Assembly Standing Committees on Health and Human Services from the 2023 Legislative Session.
