News Media Accreditation and Information

News Media Accreditation

Persons wishing to use news media space within the Assembly and Senate Chambers and access news media resources provided by the Legislative Counsel Bureau must be accredited as a member of a bona fide news medium in accordance with the requirements of Joint Standing Rule No. 25 and must obtain a press badge issued by the Legislative Counsel Bureau. NOTE: News media may be restricted from entering certain areas if they are not wearing their badges.

Press badges are issued on a temporary basis and are only valid for the current legislative session. You are not considered accredited until your name has been sent to each House and read or entered into the record. Due to this requirement, you may not be accredited on the same day as you apply. Any accreditation of a member of a bona fide news medium expires at the end of the legislative session.

If a person wants to be considered for accreditation as a member of a bona fide news medium, the person must complete and file an application for accreditation with the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau. Any decision to approve, deny, suspend or revoke the accreditation of a member of a bona fide news medium is the sole discretion of the Majority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly. If you are not approved or if your accreditation is suspended or revoked for any reason, including, without limitation, for registering as a lobbyist or engaging in any lobbying activities, the Legislative Counsel Bureau will notify you and, if you have been issued a press badge, you must return the press badge.

Please review the News Media Accreditation Information letter for more information about the process.
