AN ACT relating to education; requiring the transfer of money from the Fund for School Improvement to the University and Community College System of Nevada to provide scholarships for students pursuing degrees in teaching; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1. The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall

1-2  transfer from the Fund for School Improvement created by NRS

1-3  387.032 to the University and Community College System of

1-4  Nevada the sum of $230,680 to be distributed as follows:

1-5  1.  For the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the University

1-6  of Nevada, Reno, the sum of $130,680 to be used to provide not

1-7  more than 45 scholarships at each University for qualified students

1-8  pursuing degrees in teaching; and

1-9  2.  For the Great Basin College and Nevada State College,

1-10  Henderson, the sum of $100,000 to be used to provide not more

 


2-1  than 45 scholarships at each College for qualified students pursuing

2-2  degrees in teaching.

2-3  Sec. 2.  Any remaining balance of the sum authorized for

2-4  expenditure by section 1 of this act must not be committed for

2-5  expenditure after June 30, 2005, and reverts to the Fund for School

2-6  Improvement as soon as all payments of money committed have

2-7  been made.

2-8  Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
