1-4  (a) Be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single

1-5  lane; and

1-6  (b) Not be moved from that lane until the driver has given the

1-7  appropriate turn signal and ascertained that such movement can be

1-8  made with safety.

1-9  2.  Upon a highway which has been divided into three clearly

1-10  marked lanes a vehicle must not be driven in the extreme left lane at

1-11  any time. A vehicle on such a highway must not be driven in the

1-12  center lane except:

1-13      (a) When overtaking and passing another vehicle where the

1-14  highway is clearly visible and the center lane is clear of traffic for a

1-15  safe distance;

1-16      (b) In preparation for a left turn; or

2-1  (c) When the center lane is allocated exclusively to traffic

2-2  moving in the direction in which the vehicle is proceeding and a

2-3  sign is posted to give notice of such allocation.

2-4  3.  If a highway has been designed to provide a single center

2-5  lane to be used only for turning by traffic moving in both directions,

2-6  the following rules apply:

2-7  (a) A vehicle may be driven in the center turn lane only for the

2-8  purpose of making a left-hand turn.

2-9  (b) A vehicle must not travel more than 200 feet in a center turn

2-10  lane before making a left-hand turn.

2-11      4.  If a highway has been designed to provide a single right lane

2-12  to be used only for turning, a vehicle must:

2-13      (a) Be driven in the right turn lane only for the purpose of

2-14  making a right turn; and

2-15      (b) While being driven in the right turn lane, not travel through

2-16  an intersection.

2-17      5.  If a highway has three or more clearly marked lanes for

2-18  traffic traveling in one direction, a truck or truck-tractor, or a

2-19  combination of a vehicle and a trailer or semitrailer, with a gross

2-20  vehicle weight of 12,000 pounds or more must be driven only in

2-21  the two extreme right lanes of the highway, except that such a

2-22  vehicle or combination of vehicles may be driven in any other lane

2-23  in the direction of travel:

2-24      (a) For a reasonable distance for the purpose of making a left-

2-25  hand turn;

2-26      (b) When responding to emergency conditions;

2-27      (c) To avoid potential or actual traffic moving onto the two

2-28  extreme right lanes from an acceleration or merging lane; or

2-29      (d) Where a special hazard exists that requires the use of an

2-30  alternate lane for safety reasons.
