AN ACT relating to state employees; increasing the amount of longevity payments to state employees; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1. NRS 284.177 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2  284.177  1.  A Plan to Encourage Continuity of Service,

1-3  administered by the Department is hereby established for employees

1-4  with 8 years or more of continuous state service. [Employees]

1-5  Except as otherwise provided in NRS 284.179, an employee rated

1-6  standard or better with 8 years or more of continuous service [are] is

1-7  entitled to receive [$75 semiannually with] a semiannual [increase

1-8  of] payment of $75 plus:

1-9  (a) An additional $25 for each year of the employee’s ninth

1-10  through fourteenth years of continuous service;

1-11      (b) An additional $50 for each year of the employee’s fifteenth

1-12  through twenty-fourth years of continuous service; and

1-13      (c) An additional $75 for each additional year of continuous

1-14  service after 24 years, up to a maximum of 30 years of continuous

1-15  state service.

1-16      2.  An interruption in continuous state service terminates the

1-17  employee’s eligibility for additional pay pursuant to subsection 1.


2-1  3.  Except as otherwise provided in this subsection, no year

2-2  served before the interruption may be counted in determining the

2-3  employee’s subsequent eligibility. This provision does not apply to

2-4  an employee who was employed before July 1, 1981, unless he

2-5  leaves state service after that date.

2-6  4.  As used in this section, “continuous service” means

2-7  uninterrupted service as defined by the Commission.

2-8  Sec. 2.  NRS 284.179 is hereby amended to read as follows:

2-9  284.179  The professional employees of the University and

2-10  Community College System of Nevada are not entitled to receive

2-11  the [increases] payments provided in NRS 284.177.

2-12      Sec. 3.  The amendatory provisions of this act apply only to

2-13  calculations made for payments on or after July 1, 2003.

2-14      Sec. 4.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2003.
