AN ACT relating to transportation; requiring the Director of the Department of Transportation to develop a plan in consultation with various other entities concerning the joint enforcement of certain laws and regulations governing transportation and vehicles; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. 1. The Director of the Department of
Transportation, in consultation with the Department of Motor
Vehicles, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of
Taxation, the State Department of Agriculture, the State
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and any other
state agency directed by the Governor to participate, shall develop a
plan to jointly enforce the laws of this state and any related
regulations within their respective jurisdictions, including, without
limitation:
(a) The inspection of vehicles transporting hazardous materials;
(b) The enforcement of laws relating to the taxation of fuel used
in motor carriers;
(c) The enforcement of vehicle registration laws;
(d) The enforcement of traffic safety laws;
(e) The performance of safety inspections on commercial
vehicles; and
(f) The enforcement of laws restricting the importing of diseased
animals and noxious weeds and other illegal plants.
The Governor may direct additional agencies of this state to
participate in the planning in a manner that will benefit the State.
2. In addition to the requirements of subsection 1, the plan
must include a summary of the opportunities for joint enforcement,
a prioritized list for activities of joint enforcement and the results
expected from joint enforcement.
3. On or before December 1, 2004, the Director of the
Department of Transportation shall submit the plan to the Governor
and to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau for
transmission to the 73rd Session of the Nevada Legislature.
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2003.
