AN ACT relating to counties; providing qualifications for the county offices of sheriff and constable; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1.  Chapter 248 of NRS is hereby amended by adding

1-2  thereto a new section to read as follows:

1-3  No person is eligible to the office of sheriff unless:

1-4  1.  He will have attained the age of 21 years on the date he

1-5  would take office if so elected;

1-6  2.  He is a qualified elector; and

1-7  3.  On or after January 1, 2006, he is certified by the Peace

1-8  Officers’ Standards and Training Commission created pursuant to

1-9  NRS 289.500 as a Category I or Category II peace officer at the

1-10  time he files his declaration of candidacy for the office of sheriff.

1-11      Sec. 2.  Chapter 258 of NRS is hereby amended by adding

1-12  thereto a new section to read as follows:

1-13      No person is eligible to the office of constable unless:

1-14      1.  He will have attained the age of 21 years on the date he

1-15  would take office if so elected or appointed; and


2-1  2.  He is a qualified elector.
