AN ACT relating to education; requiring the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada, under certain circumstances, to pay all registration fees, laboratory fees and expenses for required textbooks and course materials assessed against or incurred by high school pupils taking certain courses at a school within the University and Community College System of Nevada; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. Chapter 396 of NRS is hereby amended by adding
1-2 thereto a new section to read as follows:
1-3 1. To the extent of legislative appropriation, the Board of
1-4 Regents shall pay all registration fees, laboratory fees and
1-5 expenses for required textbooks and course materials assessed
1-6 against or incurred by a student described in subsection 2 for a
1-7 course of education taken towards satisfying the requirements of
1-8 an undergraduate degree in teaching or nursing at a school within
1-9 the System.
1-10 2. To be eligible for the payment of fees and expenses
1-11 pursuant to subsection 1:
2-1 (a) The student must be a pupil enrolled in high school in this
2-2 state, including, without limitation, a pupil enrolled in grade 9, 10,
2-3 11 or 12 in a charter school; and
2-4 (b) The course of education must be approved by the State
2-5 Board pursuant to NRS 389.160 so that the credit received for the
2-6 course may be applied to the total number of credits required for
2-7 graduation from high school or the charter school in which the
2-8 pupil is enrolled.
2-9 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2003.
