SUMMARY--Makes appropriation to City of North Las Vegas for costs of relocating certain residents of Windsor Park. (BDR S-337)

AN ACT making an appropriation to the City of North Las Vegas for the costs of relocating certain residents of Windsor Park whose homes have been adversely affected by subsidence; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

Whereas, The costs associated with the geological instability in Windsor Park have proven to be greater than anticipated when chapter 859, Statutes of Nevada 1989, was enacted; and
Whereas, Some of the residents of Windsor Park require financial assistance to pursue alternative replacement housing because of severe geologic conditions that are rendering their current residences uninhabitable; and
Whereas, Geologic reports have shown that obtaining alternative housing is the only financially viable, long-term option available to the residents for mitigating the current conditions; and
Whereas, Financial assistance is needed to assist with the relocation of residents of Windsor Park whose homes are sinking; now, therefore,

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to the City of North Las Vegas the sum of $2,000,000 for the direct costs to provide:
1. Technical assistance to residents of Windsor Park in the acquisition of replacement housing.
2. Financial assistance to residents of Windsor Park in obtaining replacement housing.
3. Assistance to residents of Windsor Park in obtaining private financing on replacement housing.
4. Money for professional, technical and administrative services necessary for adequate completion of the responsibilities related to replacement housing.
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval or on June 30, 1997, whichever occurs earlier.
