Townsend GUEST LEGISLATORS PRESENT: Senator Jon Porter STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Kevin Welsh, Deputy Fiscal Analyst Joan Thran, Committee Secretary Senator Lowden started discussion of Amendment No. 1410 to Assembly Bill (A.B.) 656. ASSEMBLY BILL 656: Extends exemption from taxation for veterans of Persian Gulf Crisis to all veterans who served on active duty during crisis. Senator Lowden stated the veterans from the Persian Gulf Crisis had been left out of A.B. 656. General discussion followed. SENATOR REGAN MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS A.B. 656 WITH AMENDMENT NO. 1410. SENATOR ADLER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. (SENATORS O'CONNELL AND TOWNSEND WERE ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.) ***** Senator Lowden began discussion on Assembly Bill (A.B.) 672 and asked Senator Jon Porter to discuss the property tax exemption allowed in A.B. 672. ASSEMBLY BILL 672: Exempts certain property from taxation. Senator Porter explained that A.B. 672 would allow a church to lease the building to the community college for the sum of $1.00 a year, which is .10 percent of the market value of $1.5 million. There would be tax exemption for no more than 3 consecutive years. SENATOR AUGUSTINE MOVE TO DO PASS A.B. 672. SENATOR REGAN SECONDED THE MOTION.
