MINUTES OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Sixty-eighth Session June 27, 1995 The Senate Committee on Government Affairs was called to order by Chairman Ann O'Connell, at 2:50 p.m., on Tuesday, June 27, 1995, on the Senate floor of the Legislative Building, Carson City, Nevada. There was no Agenda. There was no Attendance Roster. COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Senator Ann O'Connell, Chairman Senator Randolph J. Townsend, Vice Chairman Senator Jon C. Porter Senator William J. Raggio Senator William R. O'Donnell Senator Dina Titus Senator Raymond C. Shaffer STAFF MEMBER PRESENT: Joan Thran, Committee Secretary Senator O'Connell discussed Bill Draft Request (BDR) 17-2160 and asked for a committee introduction. BILL DRAFT REQUEST 17-2160: Contingently provides for increases in compensation of legislators commensurate with increases in salaries of certain state employees. Senator O'Connell remarked that each senator elected before November 4, 1986 was entitled to receive compensation of $104 per day for each day of service. BDR 17-2160 would provide for senators and assemblyman elected before November 5, 1996 would receive a compensation of $130 per day for each day of service. The legislators would be provided the same percentage of increase as other classified employees of the state. Senator Raggio remarked BDR 17-2160 would be on the general election ballot on November 5, 1996. General discussion followed. Senator Townsend remarked that 10 legislators were at one rate while 11 were at a different rate. Senator Raggio pointed out this would always happen. SENATOR TOWNSEND MOVED TO INTRODUCE BDR 17-2160. SENATOR SHAFFER SECONDED THE MOTION.
