MINUTES OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE Sixty-eighth Session July 1, 1995 The Senate Committee on Finance was called to order by Chairman William J. Raggio, at 11:05 a.m., on Saturday, July 1, 1995, on the Senate floor of the Legislative Building, Carson City, Nevada. There was no Agenda. There was no Attendance Roster. Rhoads Senator Bernice Mathews STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Dee Crawford, Committee Secretary SENATE BILL (S.B.) 581 Makes appropriations to Gerlach General Improvement District for expenses relating to replacement of water tank and to department of education for pilot program for certain preschool and kindergarten children. Senator Rawson explained S.B. 581 addresses the large number of Hispanic and minority at-risk preschool and kindergarten students of Echo Loder, Roger Corbett and Veterans Memorial elementary schools in Washoe County. This pilot program, he reported, would allocate $75,000 in each year of the biennium. Additionally, the appropriation authorizes expenses relating to replacement of the Gerlach General Improvement District water tank. SENATOR RAWSON MOVED TO AMEND S.B. 581 WITH AMENDMENT NUMBER 1510. SENATOR O'DONNELL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. (SENATOR COFFIN VOTED NO.) * * * * * Senator Rawson shared the contents of a facsimile he received from the city manager of Caliente regarding the action of the attorney general during the recall process of the Lincoln County commissioners with respect to an incident surrounding hazardous waste. He reported the city manager is apprehensive that repercussion will occur when the Legislature sine dies and that the attorney general may take action for removal of the commission.
